Global Learn Day: Frequently Asked Questions

Light a Candle

Global Learn Day -
The Earth Day of Education

What is the Prime Purpose of Global Learn Day?

The prime purpose of GLD is to celebrate on a world wide basis those doing exceptional work increasing learning opportunities.

The event is to education what Earth Day is to the environment.

What Makes Global Learn Day different from any other Educational Conference?

Global Learn Day is a non-stop 24 hour "voyage" which opens in the South Pacific and "travels" west through 24 time zones. Keynoters, presenters and panelists use advanced internet technology so that their voices and their visuals can be seen and heard by almost anyone with an Internet connection. Additionally, we bridge the voices to conventional radio broadcasters worldwide. The audience participates by telephone, or online, or through phone calls to participating radio stations.

What are the Prime Goals?

Goal One is to hold the world's finest education conference focused on increasing learning opportunities worldwide.

Goal Two is to gather an audience in the millions so that "learning" is widely celebrated on a global basis.

Goal Three is to make Global Learn Day the springboard for an award ceremony that, ultimately, has "the prestige of a Nobel and an audience the size of the Oscars".

Are these Goals Realistic?

World Class Event? Now that we have held GLD ten times we are highly confident that Global Learn Day Voyage XI, October 7, 2007, will be of world class excellence. Bookmark that page and watch our progress.

Very Big Audience? Through arrangements with community radio broadcasters worldwide, we are confident that by GLD X we can reach two millions radio listeners.

Very Big Award? Yes, this is a very, very long term goal. Our guiding spirit comes from theories advanced by Stuart Brand in his brilliant book Clock of the Long Now.
