Luminary Room Proposal

Basic Offer

We wish to completely renovate one of your bedrooms in the same first-class manner as we have done for Theta Chi @ Oregon.  Plus, we will pay you $5,000 to make this a “showcase” room?

What’s the “catch”?  Why renovate AND pay us $5,000?

The “catch” is to attract you to the idea of having “Luminary Rooms” throughout your House. The “catch” is we want to be an ongoing source of fund-raising for you.  The “catch” is that if we do our part well, and you help us with contact information, we can raise several tens of thousands of dollars for you every single year.

How can you actually raise money for us?

All Greek sororities and fraternities have a long and very proud heritage. We believe that heritage can be brilliantly displayed by “Luminary Rooms”  which designate distinguished alum from your Fraternity or Sorority. Sigma Chi has John Wayne. Theta Chi has Stephen Spielberg. Sigma Nu has Bing Crosby.  And every single House has at least one alumnus who is “near and dear” to the Chapter.  Why not name rooms after those persons?

What about the $5,000 when the first room is finished?

We are professionals at fund-raising. What we need is your help to raise money for your House. It’s very simple. You give us a contact list of your alumni and we begin a solicitation campaign. We split with you 50/50 up to $10,000; after that we split 60/40. You get the sixty.

Strings attached?

There are only a few, very small strings attached.  One is that you pay for paint and any materials needed to renovate the room. The other “string” is we split 50/50 the cost of the Luminary Plaque, which will be put on the Luminary Door.

Song for the Benjamin Franklin Institute

May 24th, 2009

This Is My Song (Lloyd Stone)

This is my song, Oh God of all the nations,
A song of peace for lands afar and mine.
This is my home, the country where my heart is;
Here are my hopes, my dreams, my sacred shrine.
But other hearts in other lands are beating,
With hopes and dreams as true and high as mine.

My country’s skies are bluer than the ocean,
And sunlight beams on cloverleaf and pine.
But other lands have sunlight too and clover,
And skies are everywhere as blue as mine.
Oh hear my song, oh God of all the nations,
A song of peace for their land and for mine.

May truth and freedom come to every nation;
may peace abound where strife has raged so long;
that each may seek to love and build together,
a world united, righting every wrong;
a world united in its love for freedom,
proclaiming peace together in one song.
