John Hibbs, 61, is the Managing Director of the
Benjamin Franklin Institute of Global Education, located
in San Diego, California.
The bulk of John’s career was spent in the business of
imports and exports, with nearly 20 years of residence
abroad. In the last ten years, John has been heavily
involved in distance education with a focus on promoting
those who do exceptional work to expand learning
opportunities worldwide.
He is the creator of an event called Global Learn Day,
now in its eighth year. The event is a non–stop 24–hour
extravaganza which opens in the South Pacific and travels
west with “stops” in all 24 time zones. At each stop
presentations are made by those at the leading edge of
distance education.
John is now located on the campus of the University of
Oregon where he obtained his undergraduate degree in
history. John also holds an MBA from Golden Gate
University. He has four adult daughters.

“Mental pictures are the key to inspiration, perspiration and
problem solution. And the best way to paint them,” says Hibbs,
“is through the process of micro-broadcasting. You can put the
telephone on steroids by making it a microphone and linking it
to community radio stations. This completes the circle between
good pedagogic practices, brain power development,
family–student encouragement, community relationships and
low cost outreach.”
